What's new in R1 | With links to User Guide
This list details the changes users can expect in the upcoming SLS Release R1, which will be rolled out on 19 June 2024. Please note that SLS will be unavailable from 18 June 2024 00:00 to 19 June 2024 23:00 to facilitate this release.
Features for All Users
Renaming “Lesson” to “Module”
- Starting from SLS Version 2 Release 1, each SLS lesson will be known as a "Module". This change will be reflected throughout the SLS system, including our User Guide and all other materials.
Renaming “Two-Hour Temporary Password” to “Passcode”
- Starting from SLS Version 2 Release 1 (V2 R1), “2 Hour Temporary Password” is renamed “Passcode”. This Passcode grants students temporary access to SLS if they have forgotten their login password or if their accounts have been locked. Renaming “Passcode” for Modules to “Access Code”
- Starting from SLS Version 2 Release 1, the Passcode added to Modules to manage students’ access is renamed “Access Code”. Students are required to enter the Access Code (case-sensitive) when they click on the Assignment card. Refer here for more information. .
Adaptive Learning System (ALS) Enhancements
- Teachers and students can view the amount of time each student spent to practise each subtopic or Knowledge Unit (KU) in Learning Progress and under the “View All Topics” modal of ALS. Concurrently, there is a refresh in the user interface of the “ALS” tab in Learning Progress to display mastered concepts and the curriculum map.
Google Enhancements
- Permission for file sharing from Google workspace will be disabled and students cannot share their pre-populated Google response files with others.
Features for Teachers
Class Groups
- Users can sort Assignments and Resources in Class Groups.
- For Assignments, users can sort them according to Assignment Title, Due Date and Start Date when viewing the Assignments.
- For Resources, users can sort according to Title, Start Date and Modified Date when viewing the Resources.
- Teachers can create new Modules in Class Group Resource without having to upload from My Drive.
Lesson Authoring
Video and Audio Transcription
- Teachers can generate transcripts for their uploaded video or audio and edit them.
- In addition, for split video or audio, teachers can generate transcripts for each section of their split media.
- Users can view the transcript on the video or audio if it has been enabled.
- Users can view the transcript within the concrete start and end times for video or audio playback.
Tagging Enhancements
- Teachers can now tag Sections to their selected Content Map. This Content Map tagging will be retained when Sections are duplicated.
- The "Copy Tags from Lesson" button will be removed from Question's details subpage.
Recommend Activity Duration
- Teachers can set a recommended duration to an Activity.
Authoring Copilot
- Teachers can use the Authoring Copilot (ACP) to generate suggestions for Module, Section, Activity and Quiz description and ideas based on the details provided by them.
- Teachers can then select from the suggestions by the ACP to automatically create their Module, Section, Activity, Quiz or components.
- Teachers will be able to view their Module, Section and Activity notes on the right drawer in Module Editor and Module Viewer mode.
Assessment
Draft Response
- Teachers can now see students' draft responses in Assignments.
- Teachers can track the user who submitted the question or quiz activity and monitor the submission time. This will be stated at the top of the question or quiz activity.
- Teachers can track which teacher unsubmitted the question or quiz activity and monitor the time it was unsubmitted. This will be stated at the top of the question or quiz activity.
Quiz Enhancements
- Teachers can submit Progressive or Auto-Graded Quizzes for students even when they are not marked as complete.
- Teachers can choose to notify students with a custom message after they have submitted the quizzes for them.
- Marks Report for Progressive and Auto-Graded Quizzes will now include Free Response Questions marked by Feedback Assistants.
Unsubmit Quiz or Question
- Students will be notified after teachers unsubmit students' Free Response Questions (FRQs), Audio Response Questions (ARQs) or Multi-Part Questions (MPQs). This notification is mandatory and teachers can add a custom message.
- When teachers unsubmit Teacher-Marked Quizzes (TMQs) or questions, the Activity will be deemed incomplete and the Section and Module status will reflect this change.
Mark Activities/Sections as Complete/Incomplete
- Teachers can now mark individual Activities as complete or incomplete regardless of students' completion status and notify them with a custom message accordingly.
- Teachers can also now mark individual Sections as complete or incomplete and notify students with a custom message accordingly.
Adaptive Learning System (ALS) Enhancements
- Teachers can generate a report of student learning (Mastery Progression or Time Spent) from either the Learning Progress page or the Class Group page.
- Teachers can search and tag SLS modules to the ALS curriculum map and other curriculum maps.
- Teachers and students can see a visualisation of the content map through the Learning Progress page.
- Teachers can upload modules from Adaptive Learning to Class Group Resources for recommendation by the ALS engine.
- Teachers can select topics to recommend to students for self-study using ALS, for which students will receive notifications.
Language Feedback Assistant- English (LangFA-EL) Enhancements
- Teachers can now create Free-Response Questions (FRQs) to be marked by LangFA-EL in all types of Quizzes and as a standalone question in an Activity.
Short Answer Feedback Assistant (ShortAnsFA) Enhancements
- Teachers can create Free-Response Questions (FRQs) to be graded by the ShortAnsFA for standalone questions and other types of quizzes.
- ShortAnsFA is able to grade FRQs with no mark scheme using rubrics set by teachers. Marks and feedback will be provided for each dimension within the rubric.
- ShortAnsFA-marked questions will be included in the quiz score, and in reports associated with the Assignment.
- Teachers can resubmit failed submissions of FRQs in Teacher-Marked Quizzes.
Feedback Assistant - Mathematics (FA-Math) Enhancements
- Teachers can create FA-Math questions which utilise models.
Speech Evaluation and Text-to-Speech
- In addition to the three Mother Tongue Languages, teachers can now use Speech Evaluation in Audio Response Questions for English Language, which will automatically award marks to students based on rubrics bands consisting two criteria- Accuracy and Fluency.
- Teachers can generate an audio recording with the correct reading of their added text, which will be displayed under "Suggested Answer" in the Speech Evaluation Question.
- Additionally, for English Language, Chinese Language and Tamil Language, a transcript of the student's response will be generated. Errors such as mispronunciation, insertions and omissions will be identified in the feedback returned to students. Both teachers and students can play the audio for the correct reading of words omitted or mispronounced.
- If teachers unsubmit the Audio Response Question in a Teacher-Marked Quiz, students can delete their audio file along with their transcript and error annotations so they can reattempt the question.
- Teachers can use the Text-to-Speech function to generate audio recordings of texts within the Module.
Google Enhancements
- Teachers can have full edit rights of students' Google file copies after student submissions and also see the version history.
Features for Students
Enhancement for FA-Math
- Students can respond to FA-Math questions using handwriting input on their touch devices.
- Students can choose and manipulate models to answer FA-Math questions.
Draft Response
- Students can view who submitted the question or quiz activity and see the submission time. This will be stated at the top of the question or quiz activity.
- Students can see which teacher unsubmitted the question or quiz activity and when it was unsubmitted. This will be stated at the top of the question or quiz activity.
